An efficient, professional, and collaborative design to serve one of the largest children’s hospitals in the United States
The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois is one of the largest childcare institutions in the United States. Its doctors, nurses, and administrative staff needed new workplaces to accommodate growth and best serve their patients.
Stantec was engaged to design office space to maximize daylight and amenity spaces while maintaining views for the faculty. This was achieved by locating private offices to the inside of the floor plates for senior nurses and managers and locating the doctor’s offices along the building perimeter. Offices were designed as 100-square-foot spaces for maximum efficiency and furniture was selected to allow for smaller scale footprints.
Incorporating areas on each floor to foster deliberations between staff and faculty, we designed cafes, drop-in huddle rooms, and open spaces for quick conversations. Materials and colors were selected to represent a professional space that’s also bright and vibrant to relate to the nature of children’s healthcare. We also designed a 100-foot-long skybridge, erected at 180 feet, to connect the hospital with the office buildings.
Overall, the newly renovated space provides healthcare workers with the workspace they deserve to better serve their patients and the community.
