Assisting the Air Force with the F-35A beddown program at Eielson AFB
When the United States Air Force needed a new facility to support their F-35A beddown program at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, they brought in Stantec to provide multidiscipline design services. As the lead design firm on this design-build contract, we set out to construct a 25,000 square foot (2,300 square metre) aerospace ground equipment (AGE) facility with a fuel fillstand and covered storage and supporting facilities.
The AGE facility includes a high bay service and maintenance shop, heated covered storage, run room, wash rack, three-ton bridge crane, oil water separator, and supporting administrative and building support space to accommodate the service and maintenance requirements of the new F-35A squadron.
The fuel fillstand is external to the AGE building and entails an above-ground tank and dispensing system for AGE equipment and support vehicles. Vehicle parking, information systems, fire protection and alarm systems, intrusion detection system, and an energy monitoring control systems (EMCS) connection are included as well.
The facility accommodates 50 personnel and 340 pieces of AGE.
