Brownfield sites, areas that have a previous development, are prime candidates for commercial and residential redevelopment
The Roman Fields site forms part of the overall Twechar Regeneration project which is a partnership between Places for People (PfP), East Dunbartonshire Council (EDC), the local community, and the Twechar Regeneration Group. The goal? To revitalise the village by providing open space, infrastructure, and 300 new homes.
A brownfield site before it was brought back into beneficial ownership and use for the local community, Roman Fields was the catalyst for the establishment of a collaborative partnership between PfP and EDC. The methodology includes the principles of designing streets and shall form part of a case study by the Scottish Government as a model of excellence in implementing designing streets principles and sustainable place-making. Our design services included roads and drainage design, earthworks modelling, structural engineering, Structural Engineers Registration certification, geotechnical, and geo-environmental consultancy.
The development comprises a mixture of cottage flats, terraced houses, and semi- detached houses with level access, and it provides both active streetscapes and passive surveillance of adjoining open amenity space—all tied together with an attractive road and footpath network.
