Securing planning permission for much needed new homes in England

Homes England and Barratt Homes are working together to deliver 180 new dwellings on Pewterspear Green Road, Stretton, Cheshire. The site was originally acquired by the Commission for New Towns, and then transferred to English Partnerships and subsequently on to Homes England. We provided planning consultancy services and led a multidisciplinary team, supported by IBI Group, providing technical advice in relation to transport, noise, utilities, ecology, flood risk and drainage.

The dual-phased development, known as Kings Quarter and Saviour’s Place, is aimed at increasing the pace of housing construction as part of the government’s drive to deliver 300,000 new homes a year. Our team worked collaboratively with the Warrington Borough Council to demonstrate that the scheme would not result in severe highway impacts as well as overcoming local opposition.

In the end, Warrington Borough Council resolved to grant outline planning permission for all of the proposed 180 new homes. The new developments will not only help to grow the local economy of South Warrington and surrounding areas by bringing further quality new homes to the market, they will also enable affordable homes to be purchased within the community.
