Paradise Birmingham will create new city centre retail and leisure facilities, public transport, and public realm space
Paradise Birmingham—a £700 million development—will transform 17 acres of city centre land with new civic, retail, leisure, and hotel facilities, public transport, and public realm space—all which will contribute to the city's impressive growth. The redevelopment scheme includes working in collaboration with Centro on the proposed Metro Extension (Tramway).
We were involved in redesigning the highway layout and outlining modifications to the existing structures. The layout to maximised the development footprint, which in turn enabled the scheme to be viable and deliverable. As well as maximising the site and making more efficient use of the existing highway network, the scheme creates new pedestrian routes between the city centre and Jewellery Quarter to the north. This reflects historic street patterns and prioritises pedestrians.
We provided support on the design, construction phasing, and traffic management during the construction period, and formal completion of the off-site highway works for the Paradise development was achieved in December 2017. The handover certificate and completion certificate were signed nearly three years to the day on which all parties signed the construction contract.
