Designing an underground crushing chamber for a gold mine in Türkiye
The Eldorado Gold Corporation (EGC) is a Canadian-owned gold producer with assets in North America and around the globe. When EGC set out on the Efemçukuru Gold Mine project in September 2009, they brought on our mining engineering team to provide the detailed design of the underground crushing and conveying facility.
Right at the outset, we knew that safety and efficiency would be primary objectives throughout the project.
Our design entailed an underground crushing chamber with dual ore passes and an associated material handling system. At the top, heavy duty grizzlies and rock breaker arrangements accept the run-of-mine ore from production operations, while discharge chutes at the bottom—complete with Ross Feeders—supply the main vibrating grizzly feeder. The vibrating grizzly feeder was designed to accept feed from two perpendicular directions, drawing ore from either passes. Our team also designed innovative knife gates that control the ore pass opening and provide safe maintenance access to the external transfer chute.
