Parkinson Recreation Centre Redevelopment

For over 50 years, the Parkinson Recreation Centre has supported numerous activities and events for Kelowna residents. As part of the City of Kelowna’s visionary “Building a Stronger Kelowna” initiative, this facility is undergoing an exciting transformation. The City engaged us to help.

We partnered with the City of Kelowna, Diamond Schmitt Architects, Bird Construction, and several others through an integrated project delivery (IPD) model. Working with Diamond Schmitt, our architectural group brought a collaborative approach to the design of this reimagined facility by respectfully engaging with host nations throughout the process.

Our civil engineering team continues to develop infrastructure such as utilities, drainage, and grading alongside the overall site and landscape design team. Our engineers are also helping complete the specialized creek restoration and fish habitat improvement for Mill Creek that runs through the site, prioritizing environmental and cultural elements.

When complete, this redeveloped facility will offer five times the athletic space, two-and-a-half times the aquatic space, and three times more of the current program capacity. It will also include dedicated outdoor childcare and youth areas, a community kitchen, multipurpose rooms, and an Okanagan Regional Library branch. The 19.4-hectare (48-acre) park will feature integrated transportation networks and with the anticipated completion of the center in late 2027, will usher in a new era for recreation in the community.
