Keeping Edmonton connected
To answer the City’s increasing demand for sustainable transportation, a $480 million, 3 km LRT extension was designed, linking two post-secondary institutions, a shopping center, and a major hospital to the existing network.
Our team, as part of a larger consultant team, provided the planning and designs for the architectural, and interior design. We provided structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering design services for the right-of-way, three LRT stations, and one surface transit center as well. With proposed routes intersecting mature neighborhoods, several existing transit systems requiring integration and stakeholders heavily involved, we were faced with several challenges that required multidisciplinary coordination.
The result? Station designs that reflect the unique characteristics of the area. The MacEwan station will incorporate large open public spaces to add life to the future arena and entertainment district and the Kingsway station will include a surface transit center station, making it a transportation hub for the shopping center and hospital. The extension is another link of a network that will connect residents to their destinations and keep the growth of Edmonton right on track.
