Designing a new bus terminal at Dartmouth's busiest hub
The bridge terminal isn’t just a new building; it’s a connection for more than 23,000 people travelling across our city each day. For many, it’s part of their daily routine.
In addition to providing passengers and operators with a safer, more comfortable and accessible facility, the new terminal accommodates a growing passenger base and aligns with municipal transportation and sustainability plans. Keeping the needs of passengers and operators top of mind, we worked closely with the architect and Halifax Regional Municipality to complete the complex design in the relatively small, high traffic area. We led the civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design for the terminal, designed to meet LEED Silver certification. A signature feature of the facility is the green roof, which forms part of the pedestrian bridge connecting the terminal to adjacent streets and parkland.
The modern facility is a significant improvement over the previous terminal for passengers and operators. The new terminal has a fully enclosed, climate controlled passenger waiting area with a convenience store, visitor kiosk, public washrooms, improved information displays, drivers’ lounge, and onsite bicycle storage.
