Collaboration between three corporations to develop and expand advanced logistics/border security to safeguard the communities they serve
With Government of Canada funding for border and logistics security, The University of Windsor, The Corporation of the City of Windsor, and the Windsor International Airport joined forces to develop and expand an advanced logistics/border security economic cluster in the Windsor Essex region.
In the short to medium term, the focus will be on road-feeder services—primarily trucking and express services—the majority of which will be operated by Federal Express Canada Ltd. (FedEx). Stantec’s multi-discipline team provided the design, construction documents, and construction support for the new FedEx Express facility which included FedEx Express Retail, regional offices, maintenance, and a cargo distribution hub. Working with Autodesk’s AutoCAD and REVIT platforms to support FedEx’s process layout, our team developed the design and renderings to incorporate the FedEx design requirements and presence, while working with the City of Windsor to maintain costs and maintainability.
This facility, in conjunction with the adjoining Institute for Border Logistics and Security facility, represents a major undertaking to create an integrated cross-border logistics and security cluster located in the Windsor Airport Regional Employment Center.
