Crude oil storage tanks with double the capacity

Enbridge is a leader in the energy industry, so it was natural they contacted Stantec, a leader in design and engineering, when they needed four new storage tanks for their Edmonton terminal. Our long standing relationship with Enbridge, combined with our terminals expertise, provided assurance that the project would be completed on time to receive the product from their customers.

We have worked on similar projects for Enbridge and we know their requirements well: good solid structures designed with safety, efficiency, and operability in mind. The design of the tanks is similar to other structures, but their sheer size makes them outstanding. With a combined storage capacity of 1.1 million barrels of crude oil, these tanks involved close to 100 of our staff members from design and project management. Soon after the new tanks were commissioned, the oil began flowing into them from Enbridge’s Access and Waupisoo pipelines in the north.

Since then, Enbridge has contracted our team to build another five storage tanks at the same site. These tanks will hold 2.5 million barrels, more than twice the capacity of the prior tanks.
