Detailed Visual Bridge Inspections

Manitoba Infrastructure needed to complete detailed visual inspections of their bridge inventory to ensure that each was in good condition. We worked on a plan that considered every detail—the goal? Make sure the bridges would be safe for continued use by the surrounding communities.

The scope of our work included developing a safety program, completing field inspections and reports, taking photographs, recommending maintenance, providing rehabilitation or replacement options and associated cost estimates, and developing executive and technical reports summarizing the findings. Key structures required use of the department’s under-bridge crane inspection unit. We assembled inspection teams to undertake the inspections and developed a route inspection and scheduling system that enabled efficient completion of the work. The bridge inspections complied with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual and provincial requirements for bridges, culverts and water management structures.

The result? We ensured provincially-owned infrastructure is safe and receives routine maintenance, allowing the bridges to continue to be a vital link within the communities they serve.
