BOMA BESt buildings in Ontario are piling up the accolades
Government of Ontario buildings are the BESt. That’s what CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) thought, and that’s what we were hired to confirm. On behalf of Infrastructure Ontario (IO), CBRE brought us in to facilitate BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) certification and complete any outstanding technical services required by the 25 government properties.
We conducted energy and water assessments, indoor air quality audits, Phase I environmental site assessments, building condition assessments, and waste audits. The IO buildings achieved certifications at Level 2, 3, and 4. Pretty prestigious!
In fact, 189 Red River Road in Thunder Bay, Ontario won the BOMA Toronto Earth Award for highest scoring BOMA BESt building—95 percent! Garden City Tower in St. Catharines, Ontario, won an Earth Award for highest scoring BOMA BESt in its square footage category—250,000 to 499,999 with 89 percent. Two buildings won national TOBY awards (The Outstanding Building of the Year) in the Historical and Government categories, and Robinson Place in Peterborough won the Toronto and National TOBY awards for Government buildings, then went on to compete internationally in Seattle, Washington. Turns out, Ontario Government buildings really are the BESt.
