CANEX Kingston Mall Renovation

Architecture and engineering design services for the update of an outdated building providing retail facilities to the Canadian Forces

  • Kingston, Ontario

    Kingston, Ontario

We not only phased this project for operational continuity, but also helped carried out construction during the COVID-19 pandemic

As a branch of the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS), CANEX provides retail facilities to members of the Canadian Forces and their families at bases across the county. The facility at CFB Kingston was outdated and needed to be renovated to extend the building’s service life.

Stantec was engaged to refresh the facility to provide a welcoming and modern space for its personnel and shoppers. The project objectives were to extend the building’s service life and provide enhancements such that the facility could better suit the operational needs of CANEX and its tenants. Our scope of work targeted several priority items for renovating the single-story mall, expanding retail storage, and revitalizing the CANEX branding including exterior envelope rehabilitations, signage, and related upgrades. The renovation aspect included upgrades to exterior and interior finishes, main entrance doors, flooring, painting, lighting, HVAC, and a new accessible washroom.

Our design documents carefully phased the construction process between all parties to allow for operational continuity and public access to essential businesses during the entire construction period. The resulting facility better supports the welfare of our military with physio, dentistry, personal services, retail, and more.
