This LEED Gold facility seamlessly blends with this industrial subdivision while creating a functional hub for law enforcement
With its District 1 community police station, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) wanted to increase their public profile in the community of Ramsey, an industrial area transitioning to a more residential neighborhood. The $12.2 million, LEED Gold Certified project also represented an opportunity to add efficiency and safety to police operations through design.
Working with CPS, we analyzed workflow in their operations and designed District 1 for function and flow. For example, officers leaving the parade room at the beginning of a shift exit through the equipment room, where they can gather what they need and then continue directly to their patrol vehicles. In another example, we located the interview and holding rooms to one the side of the building, allowing more secure access and efficient monitoring of detainees, adding safety for everyone.
Looking ahead, we designed District 1 to be adaptable and planned the site to be accessible by a future light rail transit line and to accommodate the addition of a forensics building. Through collaborative design, District 1 enhances operational efficiency while creating a welcoming connection point for area residents.
