Ensuring longterm safety for the world's largest carbon capture project

When SaskPower needed to develop a CSA code-compliant integrity and safety loss management system for their one-of-a-kind CO2 pipeline project, they brought us in to help. This pipeline connects SaskPower’s processing plant to their storage facilities at one of the world's largest carbon capture project: Boundary Dam.

Shortly after our power team worked on the Boundary Dam facility design, SaskPower asked us to help them create a lifecycle operating philosophy for the interconnecting pipeline. We worked together to develop a system that would guide the planning, implementation, review, assessment, and continual improvement of the pipeline operations.

The document describes the corporate support that the system needs as well as the goals, objectives, and legal requirements that must be met. Key roles and responsibilities for persons involved as well as various policies and processes to be followed are also detailed.

With this pipeline safety and loss management system (SLMS), now tightly integrated within the corporation, SaskPower is better enabled to protect their people, their property, and the environment.
