Better training through real-world experiences
Intended for a parcel of land just southwest of Fort Macleod, the Alberta Public Safety & Law Enforcement Training Centre was designed to accommodate national and international students. The goal of the facility? To attract the best and brightest trainees and staff through a state-of-the-art facility.
The design included a main building containing administration services, dormitories, a large cafeteria, courtyards, amphitheater, classrooms, simulation training, and a combat training gymnasium. The campus incorporates a 25-metre and 50-metre indoor gun range, 300-metre outdoor gun range, maintenance building, and a scenario building. Simulation spaces allow students to experience visceral training exercises in a variety of scenarios such as a suburban cul-de-sac, village, two story farmhouse, or rural highway. Inside the scenario building, trainees also experience mock-up spaces including an alley, storefront commercial areas, apartments, court room, holding cells/remand centre, booking, and sally port.
The variety of training spaces would allow recruits to apply their academic curriculum to real-world scenarios, preparing them to respond effectively in high-stress situations.
