Building capacity and enhancing cooperation between EU Member States and neighboring countries
European member states enjoy a series of programs and understandings that create cross-border co-operation (CBC). This project extends those principles from EU member states to partner countries in the European Neighborhood (ENI)—the ENI CBC.
With technical support on the implementation and management of 16 ENI CBC programs, our team has been working alongside the European Commission, the ENI CBC program managing authorities, as well as national authorities that tackle the specific implementation difficulties. Our work also includes raising awareness, capacity building, increasing coordination, generating and sharing knowledge, and overall increasing the visibility of the ENI CBC instrument.
The end goal is that participating countries can manage and implement ENI CBC programs on their own, efficiently and effectively. Plus, the ENI CBC programs should be easily integrated into existing and similar programs.
Cross-border cooperation contributes to greater opportunities for people in border regions, enhanced economic development, and integration at a grass-roots level—building better mutual understanding and confidence across borders. The main CBC beneficiaries are local and regional authorities as well as civil society organizations.
