Integrating climate change mitigation and adaptation into key sectorial policies
Established in 2007 to help developing countries most vulnerable to climate change, the Global Climate Change Alliance supports least developed countries and small island developing states achieve the Millennium Development Goals, increase their capabilities to adapt to the effects of climate change, and amplify their voices in international climate change negotiations. These guidelines have been shaping our work in Djibouti, wherein we aim to strengthen the country’s ability to actively participate in the fight against climate change, to improve climate governance, and to implement field projects within National Adaptation Programme of Action priorities.
During this ongoing project, our objectives have been to establish an institutional framework for climate change mitigation and adaption to climate change. To that end, we’ve helped the Republic of Djibouti increase capacity and implement pilot activities in energy efficiency, access funding sources—including the carbon market—for the development of renewable energy. We also increased the adaptive capacity of communities in the surrounding space of the treatment plant Douda by implementing an irrigated perimeter creating a pilot project.
