More than 1 million customers (and counting) in Adelaide will now save money on water with no change in service
In a world of constrained water resources and extreme weather events that can disrupt water supply, effective water management is paramount. In 2010, South Australia Water Corporation (SA Water) engaged our team as part of a joint venture to deliver an interconnection to a water supply network to improve flexibility and reliability of supply, improve water security during droughts, and increase capacity to account for a growing population.
As part of the project, SA Water invested in a suite of decision support tools to support operations from source to tap. Integration was critical, as live data outputs from one tool are used as inputs into others in real time, letting us know what is happening now across the network, how we should respond to it, and what will happen in the future.
The cost of water for customers in Australia has increased by an average of at least 15 percent. Because of these tools, SA Water has been able to reduce operating costs in order to pass the savings to customers without compromising reliability or continuity of service. Combined, these new tools give SA Water access to a wealth of information not previously available and have already saved SA Water in excess of AUD$3.5 million in energy costs in 2014.
