Paul is passionate about design. As a seasoned electrical engineer and lighting designer, seeing the results of his design efforts in the real world fills him with pride. His special love for lighting design began in a high school theater class, and he’s been working with light ever since.
With more than 36 years of continuous involvement in the consulting engineering profession, one of Paul’s most satisfying projects was the San Diego Zoo Parking Structure. Paul enjoys a challenge, and this project was full of them—from site restrictions to adhering to strict light trespass controls for neighbors (like the Old Globe Theater) and for the animals, to master-planning for future infrastructure since access across the site would be blocked once this project was complete. He and this team overcame those challenges, delivering a great project that met its tight schedule and resulted in a happy client and happy neighbors.
When Paul isn’t at work, he enjoys working in community theater. There, too, you’ll find him working with lighting design behind the scenes on set construction and management. He loves meeting the great people involved in theater, having fun, and offering live theater productions to the local community.
