Stantec adds shipyard engineer to Federal practice in Virginia Beach, VA

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA TSX, NYSE:STN

Leading global design firm Stantec has added Robert Fogel, P.E. as a principal to focus on defense ports in the Federal practice and port and marine terminal projects. Fogel will be located out of the office in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In this role, he will serve as a project manager supporting the firm’s US federal and commercial client accounts. Fogel will also serve as a waterfront technical leader for Stantec’s Transportation practice.

With more than 36 years of federal experience, Fogel has served as a department head at two nuclear capable naval shipyards and led lifting and handling department, production department, and special emphasis operations. He previously served as the department head and project superintendent at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. He has also served as the department head and special emphasis superintendent at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Fogel has successfully led large departments comprised of both civilian and military personnel. He brings a longstanding track record of running effective and efficient shipyard operations. As a department head at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he served as the shipyards lead for the U.S. Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and championed critical investment funds that resulted in the award of $650 million worth of projects during an 18-month period. Fogel has also led a rapid response evaluation team focusing on failed and near failed infrastructure that successfully executed a plan to renovate 400,000 square feet of condemned facilities, allowing them to be re-occupied.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Robert to our team. His decades of shipyard and engineering experience will help us better serve clients like the U.S. Navy and the Department of Defense during a critical time of infrastructure renewal and investment,” said Chris Williams, senior vice president for Stantec’s U.S. Federal Program. “Robert’s sector knowledge and hands-on expertise perfectly complements our goals for our national Federal Program, as well as our growing presence in Virginia Beach.”

Fogel earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University. He is an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and currently sits on the boards of the Friends of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and the STARBASE Victory STEM Program.
