The concept and design were completed remotely and without time extensions
When the University of Tasmania wanted to create further student accommodation, study spaces, and communal spaces, we provided the detailed design—everything from concept to design, 3D, and construction queries. The challenge? The new, additional building had to connect with the adjacent three-storey classical heritage building.
The heritage building included meeting rooms for staff, while the new, 14-storey Melville St building is set up to for single and multi-occupant rooms. Our design for the student building included community kitchens, common rooms, a computer lab, laundry, and bike storage. For the lighting model we utilised a REVIT lighting design model, which allowed us to combine model calculations and use project time more efficiently.
The Melville St building will house more than 421 student beds across 189 apartments in Hobart’s central business district, and the built-in amenities will support the students’ community building and wellbeing.
