Identifying sustainability targets to provide ongoing quality accommodation for university students
Centrally located in Adelaide’s city centre, the 203 North Terrace Synergy tower, commonly referred to as the Switch, provides contemporary accommodation for university students. Offering 367 beds, the Switch is conveniently located near the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia, public transport, and Adelaide’s arts and culture precinct.
Before construction on the tower began, the student housing tower required a sustainability assessment of credentials to satisfy investment mandates. Our role? To perform a sustainability assessment of the project—we were appointed to coordinate and validate energy, water, internal environment quality, and materials alongside related sustainability outcomes against an industry-recognised framework. Our team established baseline performances and identified targeted gaps in sustainability deliverables so economic initiatives could be developed to address those gaps. Throughout the tower's design and construction phases, we continued to monitor and validate targeted outcomes.
Our review identified unrealised opportunities and savings helped the client achieve greater levels of sustainability and reduced costs—and the focus on the building’s internal environment quality and sustainability performance throughout the tower’s lifecycle allows students to enjoy quality accommodation as they pursue their studies.
