We kept our design of this aged care facility efficient to allow for affordable options in socially disadvantaged areas
The mix of aged care and retirement living across Perth was not enough for demand. To address this shortfall, MyVista—a not-for-profit specialising in culturally appropriate aged care—wanted to develop a modern residential facility that included dementia-specific, palliative, and chronic disease care along with retirement apartments.
Our team was engaged to execute civil, fire, and structural engineering for the seven-storey development. The primary challenge to providing this mix of residential and aged care apartments with medical facilities on the ground floor was the efficiency of construction. We needed to design as efficiently as possible for the viability of construction. The apartment block is a reinforced concrete frame with columns spaced to provide maximum flexibility whereas the aged care block is constructed from load bearing walls. Careful planning of the spaces led to minimal transfer structures and the central elevated courtyard provides a sheltered zone for residents.
The completion of this project allows our client to provide culturally appropriate aged care, allowing people to sell their homes and downsize to living that is tailored to suit their lifestyles.
