Taking an adaptive approach to student housing
Facing a need for additional space for student housing, our team is working with Curtin University to design four-story educational expansion. The project consists of four blocks of accommodation which were fabricated offshore in China to a turnkey completion. Our team attended the offshore facility to ensure design compliance and quality.
The modules designed for the project are unusual—they run across the span of the building in the opposite way to the norm. This modular design has resulted in some unique structural outcomes to ensure stability is achieved across the production process, transport issues and permanent load cases. A key focus has been to ensure the design efficacy for the production team in China is maintained.
The resulting building will be a functional, adaptable, and unique space. When complete, staff and students will have an increased ability to learn, teach, and study.
