Wesley is one of the technical leads for our Active Travel team in the United Kingdom. A major advocate for the principle of ‘sustainable streets’, he believes that for designers to meet the needs of future communities, every piece of infrastructure that is designed should provide multiple benefits for the people that they serve.
Wesley has led the engineering design and project management of the infrastructure for Phase 1 of Waterbeach Barracks on the outskirts of Cambridge. Reserved matters were granted in the summer of 2020, with the Cambridgeshire highways team noting that the scheme constituted a “pedestrian and cycle network that is exemplary and of the highest quality for anywhere in Europe”. Alongside this, he led the creation of a new Streets Design Guide for Suffolk County Council, which embeds a ‘users first’ design philosophy, taking designers on a journey of how to deliver streets that promote walking and cycling over private vehicle use.
Outside of work Wesley is an avid amateur gardener and has been in the process of nurturing a small orchard for the last few years.
