There is an ever-increasing awareness that the value of biodiversity is far more than just the variety of habitats, plants and animals that it constitutes. Biodiversity is central to the maintenance of ecosystem function and the resulting benefits provided to humans and all life. Helen’s collaborative approach with colleagues and clients aims to bring an understanding of the multiplicity of benefits delivered by biodiversity to each project, drawing on her more than 20 years’ experience in ecological consultancy.
Helen is the lead ecologist for Stantec UK&I’s Community Development Sector, providing the technical lead on ecological and biodiversity project delivery. She believes collaboration is key to success. She and her team work with clients and stakeholders to manage biodiversity assets and deliver biodiversity net gain through development.
Helen has worked as part of large multidisciplinary project teams, managing ecological surveys, mitigation, and reporting, including identification of practical and pragmatic technical solutions in her guidance to clients.
She prides herself on delivering clear ecological advice and determining opportunities for biodiversity gain, whilst being mindful of each project’s objectives. She is also proud to contribute to the development of ecology as a profession through her membership of the Strategic Policy Panel of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
