Ben works primarily in the investigation and design of urban transport projects as a transport engineer, specialising in cycleway design, from route selection to detailed design. Why cycleway design? He likes how the result of his work provides so many benefits to the community.
Ben’s involvement in the Christchurch Major Cycle Routes sees him retrofitting high-standard cycle facilities in urban environments. His goal is to deliver something that works well for cycling while minimising the impacts on the community and providing other benefits like better pedestrian facilities and lower traffic speeds.
There are no surprises when it comes to Ben’s passions outside of work: he loves taking his kids cycling–which usually involves a playground or café stop—and engaging with his local community; one summer he hosted almost 50 people for a street barbeque.
