Corridor improvements connect communities
When the City of Charlotte identified the need to develop infrastructure improvements along Tom Hunter Road, they had a few opportunities. Enhance the road? Definitely. But they could also better connect the Hidden Valley neighborhood to the larger community.
Our team’s job was to plan, design, and implement the corridor improvements. We kicked the project off with a planning phase, through which we explored opportunities, evaluated options, engaged with the public, and—with the support of an integrated City team—produced a final concept. The consensus? Create a complete road section that served as a safe, multi-use connection to the new light rail station at the intersection of Tom Hunter Road and North Tryon Street. The team, community, and City were on board together.
The final concept integrates new sidewalks, dedicated bike lines, shared use paths, and upgraded Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus stations. The project is currently in design, while we work closely with the City’s Northeast Corridor Improvement and Blue Line Extension (light rail) teams, bringing the vision into reality for the people of Charlotte.
