Providing environmental services and a remediation action plan for a former electromechanical facility
The results of the Phase 1 report that Stantec prepared guided the development of Phase 2 field investigation programs. These field investigations detected volatile organic compounds, exceeding accepted standards in both the uppermost saturated zone and in an underlying fractured bedrock aquifer, and Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPL) in a shallow water-bearing zone along the bedrock. We conducted a thorough DNAPL source area investigation, evaluated remedial alternatives for volatile organic compound impacts, performed microbial stimulation and augmentation studies, and pilot tested an in-situ chemical oxidation system. A comprehensive survey identified all potential off-site receptor wells in a one-mile distance down-gradient and resulted in a by-law prohibiting potable uses of groundwater.
We continue providing project management, cost recovery, remedial action planning, and reporting services, technical support for litigation and community relations initiatives, and participating in meetings with city and state regulatory officials. Future phases will involve advancing bedrock wells, groundwater modeling, fate and transport analysis, risk assessment, and further source area remediation.
