Expanding First Bank’s headquarters to provide improved amenities and enhance staff wellbeing
First Bank’s headquarters in Lakewood, Colorado—originally constructed in 1995—posed a problem. The international financial institution had staff at three separate locations, and a strong desire to consolidate their entire Colorado task force. The current building couldn’t fit the bill, so in 2014, they called on our architectural and interior design team to help them enhance and expand their corporate headquarters.
Company office standards were reevaluated—it wasn’t just about the expansion. First Bank wanted an iconic building that would update their corporate image, as well as the quality of their office space. The new building facing Colfax Avenue creates a courtyard, a green campus with natural flows between the old and the new. Interior planning focused on open flexible layouts that include areas to enhance collaboration for staff, while the outdated entrance and lobby were renovated into a conferencing and training center.
The new building lobby is the focal point of the remodeled building, featuring a contemporary “Colorado Company” design image by using rich materials such as printed glass, textured feature walls, and wood paneling. A fitness facility and a company café enhance staff wellbeing, while the new office wing provides ample interior day light and advanced HVAC systems to maximize user comfort and energy efficiency. The First Bank HQ is designed to be LEED Gold certified.
