Performing a plant remediation with the safety of the community in mind
Through an excellent working relationship with the Department of Toxic Substance Control, we worked through an intensive investigative phase, ultimately resulting in source identification and completion of a successful 1,200-ton excavation that produced no impact on the surrounding community.
This 6.68 acre site, now a vacant lot, was formerly occupied and operated by multiple manufacturing companies that processed various products, including acetylene, lime, air products, and refined high-end lubricating oils for use in a variety of industrial processes. We determined the nature and extent of hydrocarbon and solvent impacts, and completed remediation on an accelerated schedule—from 18 months to less than 9 months—due to the pending sale of the property and subsequent redevelopment. We prepared numerous work plans and reports; CEQA documents, community profile work and a quality assurance project plan; a final site characterization report; a comprehensive human health risk assessment, and a remedial action work plan. Our team completed field work in two phases of soil gas surveys, with 134 soil gas locations and sample collection at 5 and 15 feet below ground surface, 54 soil borings to 25 feet below ground surface, and collection of groundwater samples.
