It took technical capabilities, collaboration, and communication skills to successfully complete this complex environmental review
When Whole Foods wanted to develop a plaza in Brighton, NY with the first Whole Foods market in the region, a retail building, and a specialty coffee retailer, there was a roadblock—traffic concerns, already an issue, threatened the viability of the project. The town needed an exceptionally strong environmental review, including a substantive review of the DEIS, to allow the proposal to proceed.
We won the environmental review contract with not only our technical capabilities in traffic analysis, but also due to our in-house expertise in drainage, utilities, natural resources, and environmental review. We developed the scope of the review and completed an exhaustive and objective analysis by enhancing our local knowledge with the expertise of our national expert in the specific traffic modeling techniques needed.
Perhaps the final challenge was the most difficult—to present the highly technical and complex output of the traffic modeling to the public, and have it relied upon as true. With collaboration and our extensive communication skills, we guided the town and Whole Food’s traffic engineers in the best way to visually present and demonstrate that impacts would be mitigated to tolerable levels. The result? A great plan to pave the future of Whole Foods.
