Providing enough power for more than a quarter million UK households each year
Several years ago, Galloper Wind Farm Limited determined that the best way to provide energy to their customers was to construct new wind turbines off the coast of Suffolk in the Outer Thames Estuary. Our job? Providing engineering and environmental consultancy services for the onshore elements.
We acted as design lead for the preliminary design of the onshore compound site to formalise the landform proposals and facilitate the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) application. This included bulk earthworks modelling of the sub-station compound, sealing end compounds, transition bay area, and the access road alignment in order to determine the land take requirements and complete visual impact and acoustic assessments.
We conducted foul and surface water drainage designs alongside local utilities investigations. After that, we provided infrastructure planning support via secondment to the core Innogy consent team. Our services included leading and supporting on stakeholder engagement with the relevant planning authorities, responding to examiners’ written questions, and progressing statements of common ground.
The Galloper Wind Farm, located 27 kilometres off the Suffolk Coast, became fully operational in 2018 and generates enough energy each year to power up to 380,700 average UK households.
