Floating Solar Photovoltaic Plant

Innovative pilot project for the generation of solar energy

What modern approaches can make solar power generation more efficient? Photovoltaics that float

When our client’s innovation hub wanted to see if a 40-kilowatt floating photovoltaic (PV) plant could be built on a hydro-plant basin in Italy, they approached us to help them get on the grid. The client wanted to start testing the reliability of the floating structures as well as evaluate the increase in efficiency of the PV modules and the specific increase in efficiency on standard and bi-facial modules.

We performed a technical feasibility study of the project, with reference to the site accessibility, available area, adequateness of materials and equipment, and the analysis of permitting, authorization, and grid connection aspects. After the feasibility study the client decided to proceed with the realization of the plant (at less than 20 kilowatts), testing two different float technologies and two different module technologies.

We’re currently supporting the client in the preliminary design and preparation of the documents. These will be submitted for the request for grid connection and for the authorization of the project.

This modern approach to power generation and systems integration does not require land space and allows for an increase in efficiency and energy production.
