Designing a cost-effective, efficient and compliant system for East St. Paul to move forward
With higher ecological sensitivity, stricter environmental regulations and a shift to more sustainable waste solutions, the approaches to waste collection have fundamentally changed. Our job? To provide the Rural Municipality (RM) with the information and resources needed to move to a more environmentally friendly future.
We conducted a review of the current waste system, including an assessment of current quantities, waste streams, divergent collection system options, general operating cost ranges, population and growth of the RM and also participated in preliminary evaluations of viable collection options. This included meetings with the City of Winnipeg and the City of Brandon to gain further insight into their automated bin systems.
To communicate with the RM’s 9000 residents, we developed a post-contract-award public communication and education program, which included newsletters to educate local residents and solicit comments, which were incorporated into the project planning process.
With our assistance, the conversion to automated curbside collection has given East St. Paul the opportunity to join other major centers in Manitoba to provide enhanced services and environmental stewardship.
