Round the clock reclamation and monitoring work to protect Willowlake River
When an underground pipeline released of some 1,200 barrels of crude oil near the Willowlake River in the Northwest Territories, Stantec provided emergency response services, environmental site assessment, and remediation in this remote area.
Our team moved to our client’s temporary camp near the site to reduce travel costs and time. A mobile laboratory was brought to the site to reduce wait times for results and, consequently, decision making based on those results.
Stantec supported the oil containment and recovery program including the design and supervision of the environmental site assessment (surface water, soil, and groundwater), remediation, reclamation, and monitoring of natural attenuation programs. We also conducted air quality monitoring and sampling, assessed archaeology concerns, and monitored local wildlife.
