Pole Foundations: The Basics Alectra Training Sessions

Training sessions that teach best practices related to structural distribution engineering

    Ontario

Our instructor was called “extremely knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic, and pleasant.”

Alectra Utilities, one of the largest utility companies in Ontario, wanted to provide some professional development for their employees, most of whom have an electrical background. The goal? Provide additional training to these employees to increase their knowledge of structural and geotechnical engineering basics as well as design and site considerations, while ensuring they have clear knowledge of codes, standards, and best practices.

We worked collaboratively with Alectra’s management to develop a program that met their needs and expectations. The comprehensive training program curriculum included training manuals with exercises and a full-day, Stantec-led training session. Our instructor discussed real, ongoing projects and problematics encountered as well as provided solutions and recommendations. Now, every Alectra employee who went through the training has a handy reference manual for use when their work intersects with structural engineering.

To date, we’re the only consulting firm providing this training to Alectra. We started with one session and other Alectra divisions quickly requested that their teams receive this training as well. Stantec is currently working on additional training modules for Alectra.

With the success of this program, Alectra’s employees have a better understanding of the structural engineering aspects of their projects, and they have references for standards as well as examples that they can use when designing and in the field.
