Increasing Maritime production levels
The Lower Churchill Project will significantly increase the growing level of production in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This production increase will lead to a surplus to the current and foreseeable requirements in the province.
Emera Newfoundland and Labrador Maritime Link Inc. proposed a subsea cable to get the surplus from the island to the Maritimes. Currently in the detailed engineering phase of the project, Emera required design for the projects civil works including access roads, site preparation and site drainage for the land base sites, as well as structural design for the transmission line foundations. The land based sites for the project include AC and DC transmission lines, converter sites, grounding sites, and the overhead to underground transition sites.
The project will include two 180 km subsea cables and nearly 350 km of overland transmission in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
