Helping to put cultural assets on the map
The Culture Alliance has embarked on a major project aimed to highlight the extensive cultural assets located in the Heart of Georgian Bay. Our team was retained to support this project through the development of a mapping platform and community event hosting.
While the global pandemic necessitated a shift in community gatherings, we worked with the Culture Alliance to develop a series of online events to solicit information from the public and build excitement about this community-driven project. The team worked closely to establish a framework for asset mapping that allows the community to be directly involved in identifying their cultural assets. This will leave a legacy of data that can be leveraged in many ways. Hundreds of entries that highlight diverse cultural heritage have been logged. Things like murals, statues, and information about churches, cemeteries, and barns built in the 1800s have been recorded. From tourism to funding for culture projects, this data represents a starting point for the Culture Alliance as it builds awareness of the rich cultural heritage in the area and helps conserve the recognized heritage value of the local community.
Now complete, the project has succeeded in highlighting and strengthening the cultural bonds between the five communities, creating a communal space where the cultural assets are recognized and shared.
