Clean, efficient, renewable
With its many uses—from human consumption to biofuels—canola oil is in high demand as a low-carbon, sustainable, and renewable resource. Working with a confidential client, we were subcontracted to design a new canola crushing plant that would help them expand their processing facilities in this budding market.
Our team is providing process, mechanical, instrumentation, structural, and architectural services for the front-end loading and bridging between detailed design portion of this project. The new plant will have a capacity of 7,500 metric tonnes per day (mtpd) of canola seed and will produce 3,500 mtpd of canola oil. A portion of the produced oil will be hydrogenated vegetable oil as feedstock for biodiesel production, and the remainder will be refined, bleached, deodorized oil for human consumption. The leftover material from the seeds will be converted to pellets for animal feed.
With a limited supply of experienced engineering companies specializing in canola processing, increased demand for new facilities posed a challenge. Our client overcame this with the help of our network of subject matter experts—utilizing the diverse group of specialists we have in-house allowed us to provide strong support to our client and the industry.
Expected to be completed in 2025, the new canola crushing plant will generate renewable resources and sustain surrounding communities.
