Our experience in preparing and managing environmental approvals for mines helps our client meet obligations
In 2016, our client, Hinckley Range, received approval to mine nickeliferous limonite ore from the Wingellina deposit near the Western Australia and South Australia borders. When they saw a need to request an extension of the authorized timeframe for substantial commencement of the proposal by a further five years, we assisted in preparing a Section 46 Change of Condition submission under the Environmental Protection Act (1986).
This change, requested under Section 46 of the Act, also included the removal of a condition relating to the flora species Goodenia sp. aff. Quasilibera, which is located in proximity to the mine. This request is supported by correspondence indicating that since the initial assessment, the plant has been re-assessed as a Priority 3 species and found to be now more broadly distributed.
Also, since the approval of the mine, requirements regarding greenhouse gas emissions have changed with there now being a requirement for a greenhouse gas management plan, reduction targets, and timeline leading to net zero by 2050. Our Net Zero Mining service helps companies find innovative ways to reduce emissions. Our client’s plan is currently under review by the Environmental Protection Authority.
