Helping to achieve upgrade targets for an ageing dam

Developing solutions to improve safety and longevity

SA Water has an extensive program of work planned to upgrade Warren Dam, which was constructed more than a hundred years ago. Consequently, our team was appointed to prepare an options design study for a safety upgrade, with the aim of reducing the risk position of the dam in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA).

To prepare the study, a number of deliverables were required to assess the dam’s condition, which, due to its age, was not up to modern day standards. This included hydraulic computational fluid dynamics modeling and structural analysis, geological and geotechnical reports, a risk assessment, and an analyses of options, such as a design criteria and design bases report. We are also using our global team to conduct an international peer review group. Collectively, our expertise and track records are recognized for delivering the largest and most complex dam projects in Australia and globally, and all these skills will be available for the Warren Dam Safety Upgrade.

Ultimately, this project will result in increased safety and risk mitigation and provide environmental protection and infrastructure resilience.
