Dr. Uthayakumar is a senior principal engineer with a wide range of design and construction experience in geotechnical engineering, foundation design, and seismic design for bridges, highways, rapid transit projects, high-rise buildings, water reservoirs, and water-front structures. He’s a specialist in soft soils engineering, pile foundation design and testing, and geotechnical earthquake engineering.
One of his recent key projects was his work as the lead geotechnical engineer for the Proposed George Massey Crossing, located across the Fraser River, between Delta and Richmond in British Columbia. The work included geotechnical engineering services for an options analysis and comprehensive feasibility study for the crossing.
Outside of work, Uthaya has been active in the geotechnical engineering community serving as the Vancouver regional director for the Canadian Geotechnical Society and chairman for the Vancouver Geotechnical Society. He’s served as a committee member for the Canadian Geotechnical Society’s conferences, for the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, and for the British Columbia supplement to the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
