José’s childhood had a lot to do with his becoming a civil geotechnical engineer—he loved drawing, painting, and building things with Lego. Fast forward to the present and now he’s an engineer with almost two decades of experience in planning, design, project management, construction, and third-party audits of mine tailings storage facilities, along with all tailings technology types for projects under different geographical and geological conditions.
As a tailings and waste manager, José brings out the best in his team with clear communication—he believes active listening, empathy, and asking good questions are key to providing creative solutions for clients. He’s worked on projects across the globe from the United States, Peru, Canada, México, Ecuador, Argentina, and Spain, to Panamá, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Bolivia. Notable projects include his work on the Enlozada and Linga tailings dams in Cerro Verde, Peru.
When he’s not designing alternative mine waste storage facilities, Jose is passionate about literature and finding unknown or little-known musical gems.
