Derek is a coastal engineer with experience in coastal design, numerical wave modeling, and shoreline stabilization. As a licensed professional engineer in Texas, he has worked on dredging, habitat restoration, and environmental permitting.
Growing up on the South Texas coast, Derek developed a passion for protecting shorelines and fragile habitats. Today as a project manager, he leads coastal analyses, designs sustainable solutions, and collaborates with relevant parties. One of his most rewarding projects helped improve water circulation and salinity within Bahia Grande, a shallow and historically isolated bay system in his hometown. The project benefited thousands of acres of coastal wetlands and tidal flats, enhancing recreational opportunities and boosting local fisheries.
When he isn’t helping stabilize shorelines and fragile habitats, Derek enjoys surfing, fishing, and beach walks with his wife and dog.
