Though he’s designed railways around the world, some of Steve’s favorite work is in his community. His 20 years of experience working for Class 1 railways, rail contractors, and as a design consultant have trained him to pay attention to the whole, from project planning to operations.
Steve has worked on major alternative delivery projects, including the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red-Purple Line Modernization and Alberta Diluent Terminal’s Crude Oil Transload Facility. Regardless of how a design is delivered, his primary goal is to work with a client to maintain operations with a strict adherence to safety, quality, schedule, and budget. His knowledge of railway procedures and requirements helps streamline interactions with the railway.
Following an early mentor’s encouragement to give back, Steve serves on the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way (AREMA) Committee 14 for Yards & Terminals. He also enjoys hiking and exploring state parks with his family. Next time you’re in the Twin Cities, check out Minnehaha State Park—Steve states it’s worth the visit.
