Jan has worn many hats in her over 30-year career: president of a site/civil engineering company, vice president and chief engineer of a civil engineering firm, and assistant county engineer/engineering projects manager for Hamilton County, Tenn. She’s provided civil/site design, project management, and contract administration services on projects large and small, ranging from public and private developments, to water and sewer design, to recreation infrastructure. Jan specializes in low impact development and LEED principles.
With such a varied background, it’s hard for Jan to single out one role or project type as her favorite. But she particularly enjoys watching the projects she has worked on develop over time, like the Riverwalk and other trails in Hamilton County, or even improving on past projects like the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, where the outdoor plaza now uses green infrastructure elements like permeable concrete to create a more sustainable environment for the trees.
