At university, Juan was passionate about the topic of mining and the environment. He believed things could be done differently than they were at the time when regulatory and environmental compliance weren’t primary considerations. He went on to earn a master’s degree in environment and sustainable development.
Juan has experience in the management of sectoral permits for large-scale mining projects including Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 and Project C20 of Collahuasi. He has also served as a project manager for the preparation and processing of environmental and sectoral permits related to environmental impact studies and statements. Additionally, he has led projects to obtain permits for mining methods, authorization of waste dumps, mineral processing permits, and tailings deposits.
When he isn’t helping prepare or process his current project permits, Juan spends as much time as he can with his family. He is also passionate about soccer, playing as a goalkeeper in an amateur league, and Soccer 7—like regular soccer but played with only seven players. You can often find him grilling as well, as he believes that everything cooked over charcoal or wood tastes better!
